All About Flowers – Ornithogalum

The word Ornithogalum finds its origins in the Greek language, where ornithos means bird and gala means milk.  In South Africa, these flowers are known as tienkenrientjee or its English version, chincherinchee.

Native to regions of Africa and Europe, these flowers bloom from smooth stalks that develop within a rosette of curving basal leaves.  The delicate white flower itself forms the shape of a six-pointed star surrounding a single pistil, and six yellow stamens.  These blooms come in a shade of bright white and carry a very recognizable stripe of green along the outerside of each petal.Eventually, all of the tightly packed, green spear-shaped leaflets are pushed out by short-stalked buds.  The white flowers, which bloom from bottom to top, are large enough to completely obscure these green leaflets in the later stages of the blooming plant.

The chincherinchee flower is most frequently associated with the symbol of purity, however, they are sometimes used in weddings,  and given as gifts for special romantic occasions as they are also representative of hope.  In addition to purity and hope, these flowers are thought to be an expression of atonement and reconciliation.

Cranberry & Peach Inspiration Board

WOW! This color combo can be done oh so right! With the rich tones of our Nantucket’s native cranberry this board has some serious pop. Have you considered adding a splash of cranberry into your Nantucket wedding?

Need Your Something Blue?

We love finding creative things for Nantucket brides – and boy do we have something fun for you today courtesy of Etsy.  Wedding tradition states that the bride carries something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.  If you are still looking for that ’something blue’ – keep this sassy clutch in mind.  Modeled after a Valentino gown, this artistic bow shape goes well with the latest in sculptured dresses.  Why not make a fashion statement of your own!

Creative Filmmakers

We are taking a little side-step from our normal postings of all things wedding today.  Well, technically this is about filmmaking which is a big part of a couple’s special day.  This film today is about the creative forces behind those videos you cherish for years to come.  Read on to find out more about ‘We Create’

“Because of their age long training in human relations—for that is what feminine intuition really is—women have a special contribution to make to any group enterprise.” – Margaret Mead

42 dedicated women filmmakers and photographers.
Five sparkling days in the Bahamas.
One powerful message: We Create.

Professional event filmmakers and photographers from across the globe gathered recently on a cruise to the Bahamas for POSH 2010, an educational workshop and retreat for women. Inspired by their shared experiences, the group spontaneously decided to use their creative gifts to craft a short film illustrating the positive power and passion of women in the film industry.

Shot on location at POSH 2010, “We Create” was directed by Maura Coleman-Murray and Kara Jensen, filmed by Maribeth Ratajczyk and Luiza Perkowska, and edited by Meg Simone. All 42 POSH 2010 attendees collaborated on the piece.
