Wedding Day Make-up Tips from Lizzy

Beauty By the Sea is a fantastic make-up and product store located on Centre Street in the heart of Nantucket’s downtown. Owner Lizzy Wiggin is the islands go to gal for all things make-up and of course many a brides wedding day look. We asked her to share with us her number one tip for getting a great make-up look for your wedding day and here is what she had to say.

“Mattifying primer or anything to make you look rested, oil free but still hydrated is key!”

Tinted moisturizer is what Lizzy uses as opposed to a full coverage foundation. It is lighter and has spf 25 in it so it helps protect you during all those beach portraits. Then she applies the concealer to cover up any dark circles, red spots or highlights. This will all make you look rested, healthy, yet still dewy. The goal is to start with a nice fresh clean palette then apply your color! Flawless!

After their make-up trial brides always say they feel like they have nothing on! You want to look and feel like YOU but on your best day ever.

To check out the products Lizzy talks about or to book her for your wedding day make-up visit the store at 29 Centre Street or e-mail lizzielegg@msn.com.

Makeup Tip From a Real Bride

We had a bride (Erica) write in with a suggestion to all brides – No matter what you normally wear on a daily basis for mascara, you MUST wear waterproof mascara on your big day.  Erica said that during her rehearsal the waterworks started and she didn’t have waterproof mascara on – and that made for some ’scary’ photos.  Her  favorites:

mascara by Maybelline

Thanks for sharing your tip Erica!

Hair Baubbles

The runways this season have been filled with ruffles, sashes, sparkly embellishments and feathers on the newest bridal gowns.  When putting your look together for your big day, don’t forget about that finishing touch for your hair.  Many island brides opt to remove their veil after the wedding and put a fresh bloom or accessory in their hair.  With vintage looks being front and center, we found some great accessories at this Etsy shop – Sibo Designs.

Wedding Day Hair

We have some exciting news to report just in time for Nantucket wedding season! Theresa Davis of Tresses & The Day Spa just returned from a trip to New York City where she worked at the Redken 5th Ave. Exchange sharpening her skills for the up and coming wedding season. She focused on many of the newest trends in wedding hair styles and looking your best for the big day!! Here is what Theresa shared with us:

“Dressing the Bride” encompassed the how-to’s of bridal styling from the what, when and how of foundations and creating camera ready curls to translating magazine looks. From the importance of the consultation to photo shoot trade secrets, each day brought fresh, new and exciting ideas to fulfill the needs of today’s brides.”

“Brides expect a lot from the hairstylist, and they expect plenty of attention to even the smallest detail. Tresses & The Day Spa is committed to bringing innovative and modern styling choices to our clients.” says Theresa “When one of us attends an educational event we share the knowledge we have learned with our team, allowing all of us to increase our skills.”

Congratulation to the Theresa and the team at Tresses! We can’t wait to see what stunning styles you create for your brides this year.

Wellwed Magazine Features Our Blog and Island Vendors

We have lots to be thankful for in 2010.  Among them, the love and support from our sponsors, supporting vendors, amazing brides and couples.  One of our biggest supporters from the beginning was Krista and the staff at Wellwed magazine. They worked hard on the Spring/Summer 2010 issue and it does not disappoint!

Makeup Goes Green

With the start of a New Year, everyone has their New Year’s resolutions.  No matter where you go, people are trying to live a little ‘greener.’  Your wedding day can play right in to that, and you can wear a proud smile on your face as you walk down the aisle.  Take a look at these beautiful lipsticks.  Would you believe they are an environmentally friendly product?  The lipstick tube is made from corn (wonder how they do that?) and the box it comes in is plantable.  Even better, two dollars from every sale is donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Now that is something to smile about!!
