Nantucket Vendors Featured in Boston Weddings Magazine

Hi everyone!  We hope you had a great holiday weekend.  We know couples are in full swing planning for their 2011 nuptials.  You’re in luck because Boston Weddings Spring/Summer 2011 issue just hit the stands and there are some incredible ideas throughout the pages.

In fact, there is a real wedding done by some of Nantucket’s finest vendors!  They took the show on the road – led by Unique Nantucket Events, along with Brea McDonald Photography and Soiree Floral & Event Design.  Paul and Kerry were married on the Cape and the magazine covers all the fun details.  The couple’s beloved dog was even included in all the fun.  For all the details, be sure to pick up your copy of the magazine today!

A Nantucket “Get Away”!

Nantucket weddings, in general, have their last dance shortly after 10pm. It’s the rules! So put some thought into not only your last dance but your get away. Many of your guests will be there till the end so work in a little something festive and fun for you and your guests to send you on your way. Sparklers are always popular and make for a wonderful photo-op.

How do you want to end the night with your guests?

Tip from a Real bride

Something Old…..every bride ponders her ’something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ – we received a GREAT tip from a past Nantucket bride, Melissa, who was married this September on the island.  From Melissa:

“for my something old, I glued two pennies to the bottom of my shoe.  One with the year that I was born, and one with the year that my husband was born.  It made for great photos, and when my family and friends saw the photos after the big day, my phone rang off the hook.  A lot of people were not aware I did that, and they thought it was a fun idea.”

Thanks for sharing Melissa!

Importance of a Wedding Film

People can always find reasons why they don’t need a wedding videographer – and usually the excuse involves a misconception about what working with a videographer is like and what the finished product will be. If you haven’t seen a wedding film in a while now is the time! Don’t skip over this important element when looking at your wedding day vendor list and budget. Check out this recent testimonial caught on the fly by filmmaker Meg Simone. Take it away Meg!

Time is fleeting and tends to slip away and so do the sights and sounds of your wedding day. I would never be without photographs. There is nothing better then cozying up on the couch and flipping through your custom album, but to hear and see moving images of loved ones, to actually hear yourself recite your vows … There is nothing in the world like that feeling of reliving the moment all over again.

If you are on the fence about hiring a wedding filmmaker, there’s no better advice then from a former bride herself. I filmed Kim’s wedding on 8/1/2009 and then she was a bridesmaid 6/19/10. As I was approaching Kim at that wedding I caught her talking about me to bridesmaid Caitlin who is also engaged. This was a very candid conversation she was having and nothing was scripted. It’s good honest advice, and couldn’t be closer to the ideals I share about why capturing your wedding is so important.

Visit Meg’s website to see more of her wedding day work and see what today’s modern filmmaker is like.

Summer Colors

For summer brides, there are so many vibrant colors to choose from when deciding on your final color scheme.  We fell in love with this summer berry and kiwi combination that a recent island bride chose.  With a mix of chartreuse, kiwi, melon and spearmint for the green colors paired with strawberry red and poppy – you get a refreshing look that holds up to the heat.  This works best when you add texture and movement to your floral designs.  If you aren’t careful, this can come off looking like a Christmas story.  Keep the look updated by adding herbs (like the mint and rosemary added here) and unusual elements like pods and berries.  Finish off your bouquet handle with a patterned ribbon and you have a modern, current look.  These colors look great when paired with classic white, a true navy, or even a deep pink.  Go ahead, be bold – you’ll be glad you did!
