Not So Secret Locations
Today Sarah from A Private Concierge is back to talk about wedding venue locations. First up, Nantucket Yacht Club. Take it away, Sarah:
You always knew you wanted to get married on Nantucket, even before you met Mr. Right. You envisioned a September day with the harbor backdrop at the Nantucket Yacht Club for your pictures, but maybe you aren’t a member at the Club. There are two ways to go about getting your dream wedding venue. The first option is having a member sponsor or host your wedding event at the club. The Yacht Club can fill you in on all the details.
A Private Concierge offers up another great tip – did you know that even though you are not a member of the Yacht Club you can still get married on the property (except mid-June to mid-September due to club events).
The Ballroom offers enough room for all of your guests and a classic charm that welcomes parties of all sizes. This is a flexible space perfect for your wedding of any size. Located at the heart of the Yacht Club, the Ballroom has a breathtaking view of the water. French doors open onto the waterfront patio and invite guests to enjoy the splendor of an evening under the stars.
A Private Concierge can help arrange your accommodation and book all travel and accommodations for you, the bridal party and your family. Before anyone arrives we will stock your accommodations with food, wine/beer/spirits and any other item needed. A Private Concierge will also handle any dinner reservation, activities that you or your guest may like while on island. If you are shipping any items for the wedding to your accommodations before you arrive, we can be on-call to receive the packages to ensure you don’t miss them!

Unveiling the new “film” generation- Part 2
Filmmaker Meg Simone is back today to follow up on yesterdays post about the new styles and media being used in wedding videography.
Gone are the days of long form 2-hour videos, bright lights, and big cameras. The modern wedding filmmakers of today are creating absolute masterpieces! And if you are so daring to do a concept video – those are all the rage right now too, like this get up and make you dance film by Kevin Shahinian of Pacific Pictures.
Anuja + Nirav’s Bollywood Concept “Dil Jaanta Hai (The Heart Knows)” from PACIFIC PICTURES on Vimeo.
No more big cameras and bright lights of the 80’s and 90’s. Now a days don’t be surprised to find your filmmaker showing up with the same cameras as your photographer! What? I know! It sounds wrong, but trust me, the image quality is absolutely mind blowing. While I personally still shoot with mid sized HD cameras the capabilities of HD Digital SLR’s (the same camera your photographer may have) are equally as impressive. You can see an example of such technology at work from John and Jennifer Moon of Northernlight Filmworks with this short film of Maggie [+] Hunter. The light, the visuals, the quality are beyond impressive (not to mention all the fun details of this couples wedding day!)
Maggie [+] Hunter from Northernlight Filmworks on Vimeo.
Using new technology like the DSLR cameras is a big step for wedding filmmakers. The low light capabilities are far superior to regular High Definition video cameras. Combined with dim-able on camera lighting, you can erase from your mind any image of the sweaty camera person with giant blinding lights, from all those 90’s Hollywood wedding movies.
Not everyone is using the new HD DSLR cameras, and that’s ok. It’s still new technology. Don’t expect it from each filmmaker you contact, and don’t let that prevent you from booking with them. As you can see from this two part blog post, the modern filmmaker of today is NOT what you probably have imagined. Stylish, fun, vibrant, classic, unique, engaging, and discrete are a few words that come to mind when I think of my friends in this biz. There are lots of styles, approaches and ways to capture a wedding on film… how will you have yours captured?
Renting a Home for your Nantucket Wedding Venue
Considering a rental home for your Nantucket wedding reception and ceremony? We asked the team at Great Point Properties to share some insight on how to book a home for your island wedding venue.
Great Point Properties represents over 650 rental properties, but of those only a very small handful will even consider renting to a wedding party, so you need to plan well in advance. We do not want to be discouraging but our experience is that 99% of the homeowners run for cover when they hear that we are calling them with a wedding venue inquiry. If you are having a small intimate gathering than your odds get a bit better but it is still very rare that a homeowner will allow a ceremony to take place at their property. So, first word of advice: do not waste a lot of time looking on line at homes for your dream wedding; call us and we can steer you to a select few homes that may work for you.
One popular rental venue is Elliots Way in the Tome Nevers area of the island. There are three homes on the property and a breathtaking view of the water. You can house your family and wedding party on location and take advantage of the beach just below your bluff. This location works out well for couples looking for a tented wedding and outdoor ceremony. Your guests can take in the stunning view and your photographer can utilize the amazing location for your family and couples portraits. A stellar option for an island wedding venue but limited to only a handful of events a year so planning is key! Contact Great Point Properties to find out more about Elliots Way for your island wedding or to inquire about one of the other properties that may work for your wedding event.
Nantucket Tents, Stunning Sail Cloth Tents
Morning Everyone! It’s Brea here, and I just couldn’t resist talking about one of my favorite wedding elements this morning.
So, I have a thing for tented weddings. You may have noticed this from my website or if you are a fan of my Facebook page that I have a slight thing for those evening tent shots. I photograph a lot of tented weddings and I must say I get excited for that special glow that comes along with a stunning tent. It’s like a world of it’s own under there!
When one of my favorite tent companies was looking for some new photos for their catalog I of course e-mailed a few right over. (lets just say I had a couple of shots to share) And then a few weeks later received a package in the mail with copies of their shiny new catalog. I was super excited to see several of my tent photos featured on the stunning pages of their latest creation. But beyond that was some stellar information for those planning a tented wedding. All the details from the various types of tents to possible floor plans are laid out on the pages. It just goes to show what a professional company this is and the best part…. these tents are available on island at Nantucket Tents! They really know how to create an amazing space for your special day.
If you are planning a tented Nantucket wedding visit their website and take a look at all they have to offer. And check out a few shots of their Sperry Tents brochure below.

Nantucket Wedding at Cisco
Mel and Sparky were married this past fall on Nantucket Island. The fall is a favorite time of year on the Nantucket for many who visit and live here. The island slows down a bit from the summer bustle and the weather is fantastic!
Mel and Sparky wanted a fun filled wedding with a laid back appeal. After their ceremony at St. Paul’s church they zipped off in a vintage Jeepster, a classic island car, and met up with their wedding party at Cisco Beach. With stocked coolers they watched the sunset and took advantage of some picture perfect light for their photos with Brea McDonald Photography. Relaxing at the beach is what Nantucket is all about so taking some down time to enjoy the scenery was a nice way to keep the photos fun and casual.
Their wedding reception was held at nearby Cisco Brewery where guest got to sample some of the islands own brewed beers, wines and spirits. But, the real excitement started when the music from Boston DJ’s got rolling! Everyone, I mean everyone was on that dance floor till the bitter end. Complete with old school dance circles, Elvis impersonators and the classic last song of the night from Journey… you know the one!
As an end of the night surprise, orchestrated by event planner Nantucket Island Events, guests lined the walkway with sparklers to send the newly weds off into the night. Perfect for a groom named Sparky!
Ceremony: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
Reception: Cisco Brewery
Event Planner: Nantucket Island Events
